Question 1

What is the difference between Strike Radar and Sky Sentinel?

Accepted Answer

Strike Radar certifies past strikes with Nsg data and keraunic reports. Sky Sentinel monitors lightning activity continuously around your sites and triggers graduated alerts (Yellow/Orange/Red) to protect people before the storm.

Question 2

What is the NF C 17-102:2011 standard?

Accepted Answer

NF C 17-102:2011 is the French standard governing lightning protection systems equipped with Early Streamer Emission (ESE) air terminals. It defines design, installation and maintenance rules, as well as the protection radius Rp calculation for levels I to IV.

Question 3

What is an ESE air terminal vs a Franklin rod?

Accepted Answer

An ESE air terminal generates an anticipated upward leader, providing an extended protection radius compared to a simple Franklin rod. ESE is governed by NF C 17-102:2011, Franklin by IEC 62305.

Question 4

Is lightning protection mandatory?

Accepted Answer

Yes, in many cases. In France, the Labour Code (L4121-1/L4121-2) requires employers to assess lightning risk in DUERP. In the US, OSHA §5(a)(1) requires a safe working environment. IEC 62793 governs storm monitoring and defensible intervention reports.

Question 5

What is Nsg data?

Accepted Answer

Nsg (Ground lightning severity level) is a measured value required by IEC 62305-2:2024 for lightning risk calculation. Strike Radar provides real Nsg data from the GLD360+ network.

Question 6

What is a defensible intervention report?

Accepted Answer

A certified document generated by Sky Sentinel after each lightning alert, proving safety measures were applied per IEC 62793 and employer obligations (L4121-1/OSHA). It feeds the occupational risk assessment (DUERP).
